What's On Next
West Meon Theatre’s next production will be
The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow,
Directed by Helena Gomm
The 39 Steps is a fast-paced comedy, loosely based on the Alfred Hitchcock film, which is itself even more loosely based on John Buchan’s much-loved novel. The play is set in the 1930s and follows the incredible adventures of handsome adventurer Richard Hannay, who picks up a glamorous and mysterious woman at a music hall, only to find her dead in his flat the following morning. Accused of her murder, he flees to Scotland, encountering a host of colourful characters: music hall performers, thugs, policemen, underwear salesmen, mad-eyed hotel owners, grumpy crofters, double agents and, of course, a beautiful heroine, as he tries to track down the leader of an evil spy network and prevent important military secrets being taken out of the country. Our hero is chased along the outside of a steam train, plunges off the Forth Bridge, is kidnapped by spies, shot at by a biplane, pursued by bloodhounds across the Scottish moorlands and even has to deliver an impromptu speech at a political rally. All this will be portrayed by just five actors in a frenzied performance that will leave them and the audience gasping for breath.
There will be four performances from 23rd to 26th January 2019 in West Meon Village Hall.
Tickets will be on sale from October 2018.
